Update: Open Dates in August, September and Beyond

Here’s your big chance to be a podcast star! We have some open dates coming up the next few months, and would love to have more people contributing to the 365 Days of Astronomy. See below for upcoming dates that we need filled.

We also have decided to change our deadlines of when we would like to people to submit their recordings: Instead or the previous 30 days before your scheduled “air” date, the deadline is now 10 days. You can still submit them 30 days (or more) ahead of time, and we will gladly and thankfully accept them.

If you’re the kind of person who can’t commit to a specific date, we also are in need of back-up emergency podcasts for when people either bail out or unexpectedly have a famous “life happens” event. As you may have noticed, we were recently forced to resort to using “encore” episodes — re-airing podcasts from 2009. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as some of our podcasts are classics and should be heard again. But our real goal is to have a new podcast every single day. That’s why we need you!

As always, send us an email if you want to sign up or have questions. We love to hear from you!

And as promised, here are the upcoming open dates (you can also see our calendar for a look at the available dates.)

iTunes is back

As we noted earlier, our podcast mysteriously disappeared from iTunes. After many back and forths with Apple and some RSS wrangling we are happy to report that the daily podcast is back in iTunes. Please go there and give us a good rating and a good review and help us spread the word about this remarkable podcast.

You’re doing great!

Wow, the excellent podcasts keep rolling in. Thank you everyone for your great contributions. We are also very appreciative of the sponsors and the production staff. Nancy Atkinson, in particular, is a rockstar and this podcast wouldn’t be running so smoothly without her.

We have crossed over the 500,000 downloads mark! Many thanks also to our faithful listeners, grooving on their daily astronomy fix. We are approaching the half-way mark on this science audio adventure. What do you think? What are your favorites so far? Comment below!

Ouch! Site was down.

Media Temple, the hosting provider which hosts this site, had a major failure. It took this site with it. The podcast RSS feed and iTunes feed continued to work normally, but the main web site was down. All we could do was wait until Media Temple completed their restore. We apologize for the disruption, especially [...]

Feed Problem

The Feb. 2nd podcast has been published but for some reason the RSS feed is not including it. The audio is available via the post on the web site. We’ve contacted libsyn to see what the problem is. Thanks for your patience!

Spread the word!

Remember, the goal of the IYA is to bring astronomy to people who are otherwise not exposed to it. We all need to suggest this podcast to friends, family and co-workers even if they don’t know they like astronomy. You can help by suggesting an episode that you think they will like. Or burn them [...]

Week 1 is done!

Hurray! We got through our first week of the podcast! We’re heard some great stuff already and a nice variety, too. We’ve received nice feedback about the podcast and lots of emails requesting to contribute podcasts. That’s great! Keep it up! I heard Pamela say we have less than 100 open days left. At the [...]

Facebook

There are two ways to support The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast on Facebook. You can become a fan of the “product” and/or you can become a reader of the “blog“. The latter is really much more useful, so if you are on Facebook, come join us.

Also, just a small update — the audio is starting to flow in. If your podcast is in January please make sure you leave enough time to get us your audio 30 prior to your air date. At the very least, let us know if it will be late.
