Podcaster: Edward Gomez

Organization: Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network – http://lcogt.net

Description: I explore my childhood experiences of astronomy with my dad, and how it inspired me to be a professional astronomer. We talk about building a telescope in the garden of the family home and why my grandfather was consider to be crazy by the family.

Bio: Dr Edward Gomez works for Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (http://lcogt.net) as the education and outreach lead. He is involved in many other science engagement projects, including ‘Teapots from Space’ vodcast series, is a lay-editor for Portal to the Universe, and a ‘dot-astronomer’. Edward likes coffee and a paper on a Sunday morning, while listening to some baroque music.

Sean Gomez is semi-retired, but has been an accountant and managing director of several engineering companies. He is now enjoying more time with his wife, who always manages to keep him out of mischief. His loves are astronomy, the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, restoring classic cars, and singing. Sean would ideally like to do all four at once, but his wife seldom permits it.

Today’s sponsor: This episode of “365 Days of Astronomy” is sponsored by Maurice and Wendy Frank of Marietta, Georgia in loving memory of Spock and Micro, their feline family who were born twenty years ago this month. May their spirits soar to the stars.
